December’s Virtual Record Club: BEST OF 2020

I know, I know. This isn’t a year we particularly want to remember or celebrate. But for some of us, it has been a time where we’ve had the opportunity to take in more music, both new and old.

So to recognise that, this is a chance to share the music that you’ve been listening to most this year, whether that be a new release, an old favourite you’ve rediscovered or maybe just something old that’s new to you. These are strange times, so what the heck!

Some of you have already suggested tracks to play, but if you haven’t, there’s plenty of time to do that. Our Twitter and Facebook pages are the best places to get in touch, or you can drop us a line here if social media isn’t your thing.

And if you’re a Spotify user, you can add your tracks to our collaborative playlist too. Find it here.

September’s virtual Record Club: 7th Birthday special

This September marks seven years since we started our monthly record club sessions, and while we haven’t been able to meet up like we usually do these last few months, we’ll be marking the occasion with another virtual online record club.

And as it’s our 7th birthday, the theme is SEVEN. Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Seven in a song or album title or lyric.
  • An artist’s seventh album or single.
  • The seventh track on an album.
  • Bands with seven members.
  • A year that ends in 7 (1957, 1967 etc, but only 1977 from the 70s will be valid)

Whatever the seven connection, make a suggestion. Over to you!

DECEMBER’S RECORD CLUB: Christmas Social 2019 *New Date*

INFORMATION OVERLOAD ALERT!!!

Our last record club of the year is on WEDNESDAY 18th DECEMBER! We’ll be taking it easy with a few Christmas tunes, an open deck for anyone who fancies spinning some records and of course Vinyl Secret Santa. Rules below.

We’re also busy with radio stuff this month too! Alongside our regular show on Radio Free Matlock (Tuesday 17th December, 8pm), which this month is a round up of some of our fave tracks of the 2010s plus a few listener suggestions, we’ll be broadcasting LIVE on election night (when it SHOULD be record club, but the labour club will be otherwise occupied). To listen, just click this link at 8pm on Thursday 12th December, and if you have any shout outs or songs or artists you’d like to hear, let us know on Twitter or Facebook and we’ll see what we can do. They don’t have to be political songs! Just so you know.

Glossop Record Club back on the radio!

Stack-A-Records, the monthly Glossop Record Club radio show is back on Radio Free Matlock TONIGHT from 8pm, and it’s a live albums special, as we pick out and play tracks from albums nominated by our followers on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The only place you can listen live is via the Radio Free Matlock website, so make sure you follow this link https://radiofreematlock.co.uk/

We’ll also be tweeting photos of the records played throughout the show, so keep an eye on our timeline from 8pm.

STACK-A-RECORDS – the new monthly Glossop Record Club radio show

Just a quick post to let you know that ‘Stack-A-Records‘ – our new monthly radio show – starts tonight at 8pm on Radio Free Matlock.

We’ll be on the airwaves on the third Tuesday of every month with two hours of top tunes, mixing tracks from records played at record club over the years alongside new releases, reissues, box sets and old favourites. There’ll also be themed specials plus occasional co-hosts and special guests from time-to-time. A bit like record club!

Appropriately, our first show is a debut albums special, with tracks drawn from a list of around 160 suggestions that came in via our Twitter and Facebook followers. So if you told us your fave debut albums, be sure to tune in to see what made it to the playlist! We’ll be tweeting pictures of the records played throughout the show if you want to join us there too.

Listen live via the player on the Radio Free Matlock website and also check out their other shows during the week. There’s always something hip, happening and interesting to listen to (this week’s schedule is below). The show will also be up on Mixcloud the following day to listen to at your leisure.
