Krautrock! – Records Played

spines

‘Generation after generation of fans discover in Krautrock a peerless hallucinatory pageant for the mind’s eye, a sound in which absolute freedom and absolute disciplince coexist, a rejoicing cosmic “yes” delivered with the roaring attack of punk.’
(Simon Reynnolds foreword in Future Days by David Stubbs)

I can’t tell you how much of a buzz it was to play some of my favourite records, through big speakers, cranked up loud and seeing everyone getting into it. Every track sounded amazing – the kosmische of Tangerine Dream and the experimental pranks of Faust, the hypnotic motorik beats of Can and Neu! and the elektronische musik of Kraftwerk and Harmonia. I’ve never seen a room of people gripped by a piece of music in the way Can’s Mother Sky did. A night to remember and such a pleasure and privilege to share this music with you all. Thank you.

Here are a few comments posted online after the session.

Just listened to Mother Sky by Can on proper speakers at Glossop Record Club. That was some phenomenal shizzle.

Neu! & Faust on vinyl tonight at What a wonderful evening.

Krautrock night was enlightening. Can track was amazing and Neu ’75 was fantastic.

It was exhilarating to hear Hero by Neu! played GOOD AND LOUD last night at .

I’m now on the hunt for Can and Neu records!

This was amazing!

“Can’ sounded brilliant and just ordered the ‘Neu’75’ album.

Great night.

Extremely enjoyable evening, came away with some new inspiration and something to seek out, thank you all involved.

Don’t forget, we’re taking our annual break in August but back on September 8th, marking what would have been Buddy Holly’s 80th birthday with the help of our resident rock & roll historian Bill Jubb. Enjoy the summer and see you in September.
