Glossop Record Club returns on Thursday 8th September for an evening dedicated to Buddy Holly, whose short but prolific musical career left an inedilible mark on rock & roll and beyond.
Record club regular and rock & roll historian Bill Jubb will host the session, commemorating Holly’s 80th birthday by playing a selection of records from The Crickets to solo cuts and the home recordings Holly made on a tape machine in his apartment.
Born on 7th September 1936 in Lubbock, Texas, Buddy Holly’s career began in 1956 with a short, unsuccesful solo stint at Decca Records, moving on to find great success with The Crickets in 1957 and released records both on his own and with The Crickets until his death in a plane crash at the age of just 22 in February 1959. He was one of the first rock & rollers to write his own songs and have creative control over his recordings, and was so prolific that previously unheard songs were being released for 10 years after his death.
