13 July 2023: David Bowie – Ziggy Stardust LIVE (The Motion Picture)

We’re back at Glossop Labour Club on Thursday 13th July when we’ll mark the 50th anniversary of David Bowie’s last performance of Ziggy Stardust by playing the live album of that very show.

Recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon (now Apollo), London on 3 July 1973, Bowie’s on-stage retirement took the audience and his band by surprise, and set the pattern for a career in which Bowie would always keep ch-ch-ch-changing. With Mick Ronson’s guitar to the fore and Bowie’s penchant for drama at the max, it’s an incendiary and enthralling performance from the first note to the last.

We’ll be playing the 2003 version of the album, remixed by Tony Visconti and released to mark the show’s 30th anniversary. An expanded 50th anniversary release is imminent, but sadly won’t be out in time for us to play. Maybe we’ll do that for the 60th anniversary!

Doors 8pm, music starts at 8.30. See you there.
