February’s Record Club: THE VOICES OF SCOTT WALKER

We’re back at Glossop Labour Club on Thursday 7th February (the first Thursday of the month for a change) for The Voices of Scott Walker.

From 1960s teen idol and 1970s MOR crooner to present day avant-garde explorer, we’ll be digging deep into 60 years of his music both solo and with The Walker Brothers, playing album tracks and b sides from across his career. Our full album will be Scott 4 from 1969, a flop at the time, but now considered a classic. And all on vinyl, of course! See you there.

January’s Record Club: BUZZCOCKS

We’re back for our first session of 2019 on Thursday 10th January with an all-vinyl doff of the cap to recently departed punk-pop genius Pete Shelley, founder of Buzzcocks, solo artist and a hugely influential figure in the history of punk.

Our main album will be Buzzcocks’ Singles Going Steady, which brings together the band’s first eight singles complete with B sides – an unparalleled run of perfect pop songs originally released between 1977 and 1979. We’ll have a handful of other tracks along the way too, including Buzzcocks’ self-released debut ep, Spiral Scratch, which set the template for punk’s DIY ethos. Plus, writer David Nolan makes a return visit to Glossop Record Club to talk about Pete Shelley’s influence and legacy.

It’s all happening at Glossop Labour Club, Thursday 10th January. Doors 8pm, music starts 8.30pm and the usual record club listening rules apply – phones off, ears open and no talking while the music plays. See you there!
