January’s Record Club: BRITISH BLUES

grcblues (2)

Glossop Record Club is back on Thursday 7th January for our first session of 2016 – an evening of British Blues with record club regular Peter Carefoot.

Peter has chosen two records from his collection that offer different perspectives on British Blues  – the 1968 self-titled debut by the original line-up of Fleetwood Mac featuring Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer, and ‘Up Jumped The Blues’, a collection of local blues acts recorded in Stockport and released by the Manchester Rhythm & Blues Co-operative in 1988.

We’ll also hear a few tracks from the Blue Horizon Records collection ‘How Blue Can We Get?’ which features acts from the British blues boom of the late 1960s alongside the American artists that influenced them.

Christmas Social… what happened

The idea of doing some sort of social night has been lurking at the back of my mind since the early days of Glossop Record Club. Why did it take so long? It just did! But a message from Darren a couple of months ago about doing such a thing was the catalyst I needed, and what better time than Christmas. So thanks Darren.

And what a night! A busy and bustling labour club and top tunes from Gavin and Tim of All FM’s Charity Shop Classics, complete with the music quiz (were the questions too hard?!) and the Secret Santa record box. What did you get? I hope you all received a record you’ll enjoy. I got a David Bowie record!

I brought my camera to take some photos throughout the night, but as usual forgot to take any. Apart from one. On my phone. Here it is.

Big thanks to the following for generously donating the prizes for our quiz: Birds Hit Records, Gizeh Records, High Street Records & Books, Defiance Sessions and Charity Shop Classics. Thanks also to Gavin and Tim from Charity Shop Classics for DJ skillz and their help with the quiz. Couldn’t have done it without you.

And of course thanks to everyone who came along, bringing records for Secret Santa, records to play and food donations for the Glossopdale Foodbank.

We’ll be back on Thursday 7th January for a night of British Blues with Peter Carefoot. More details soon.

All that’s left to say is Happy Christmas and see in you 2016. Best wishes to you all. Shall we do it again next year?

MUSIC PLAYED

You know what, you had to be there! But if you have any photos of your Secret Santa records or just from the night in general, send ’em through. Thank you.
