Souls were well and truly psychedelicized and a few minds freed at our Psychedelic Soul session. There was even an outbreak of actual dancing, a rare but beautiful sight at record club. Their asses did indeed follow. Right on!

As ever, we only had time to scrape the surface, but hopefully those who asked “What exactly is Psychedelic Soul?” will have had their question answered in full. It was a real pleasure to share this music with you all and made me think we should get down and funky more often. Plans are being hatched!

Thanks to all who came, listened and danced to the music, and also a big thanks to Brooklyn’s Slice Of Spice Records for suggesting (and sending over) a few tunes to get us warmed up.

Here are a few comments from the world of social media:

At & Mr has done some ace research on Psychedelic Soul. I’m learning so much!

A brilliant Record Club last night. I’m aching from fast stepping to the full version of Poppa Was A Rolling Stone.

Nice grooves Simon. The Chairmen of the Board tracks were a revelation.

Enjoyed it immensely. The dancing at the back was fantastic.

It was fantastic, thank you!

We’re back on Thursday 12th July for Krautrock 2 when we’ll further explore the kosmische music of 1970s Germany, including tracks from Amon Duul 2, Neu!, Can and Harmonia alongside a full album by Kraftwerk. Details soon.
