March’s Record Club: THE FALL

GRCTheFall_March2018

“I curse your preoccupation with your record collection…”

In January, we lost another true icon of British music with the passing of the Hip Priest himself, Mark E Smith, and thus sadly the end of the fantastic life of The Fall.

Releasing over 30 studio albums spanning almost 40 years, plus a similar number of live albums and countless singles, EPs and compilations, the band scored just 3 UK top 40 singles with a highest chart placing of 30, but this mighty band with the ever-present Smith at the helm gained a large cult and devoted following for their incredible and often challenging music.

On Thursday 8th March, our resident Fall devotees Steve, Gavin and Darren, will guide us through the wonderful and frightening world of The Fall sound, from their weird and wired beginnings in the late 70s, through the Brix-era glam racket of the 80s and 90s and on, into the new facts of the recent offerings. We’ll round off the night by playing their 1990 Extricate album in full and of course, on vinyl. It’s what you need!

We’ll also be joined by The Fall’s long-time drummer (1986 – 1997) Funky Si Wolstencroft, who’ll be telling us a little bit about his time with the band and also introducing our featured album, on which he plays.

Doors open at 8pm, but with so much to cram in we’ll be starting the music at 8.15 prompt, so don’t be late! See you there.
