October’s Record Club: PUNK!

grc_punk

We’re back on Thursday 13th October for a night of punk and new wave on vinyl, marking 40 years since musical anarchy all kicked off with The Damned’s ‘New Rose’.

The 7″ single was the format for defining punk statements, so rather than playing a full album, we’ll be working our way through a stack of punk and new wave records (album tracks allowed) and we need your help. Bring along your punk vinyl and feel free to share any stories or memories you may have of the punk wars.

We’ll also be joined by writer David Nolan, author of ‘I Swear I Was There: The Gig That Changed The World’ – which gathers together detailed accounts of the Sex Pistols’ first gigs in Manchester by those who were there – to discuss the impact of these gigs on the people who saw them and how Manchester quickly became punk’s second city.

Finally, we’re proud to have been invited to be part of this year’s We Shall Overcome series of anti-austerity events, so please bring food and cash donations in aid of Glossopdale Foodbank and Tameside Against The Cuts. Thank you.
