You lucky people

A big thank you to everyone who braved the rather wild elements and ventured out for our pre-Christmas session, otherwise known as Lucky Dip. It was great to see so many people bring records with them, but there could be only two albums played in full during the main part of the session. The job of pulling the entries from ‘the pint pot of luck’ fell to the labour club’s trusty barman Martin, and the albums drawn were The Everly Brothers’ Songs Our Daddy Taught Us (brought in by Steve) and Ultravox’s Vienna (brought in by another Steve). I’m hoping everyone else got to spin a track or two from the records they brought too.

Brett from The Downstairs Lounge blog provided  an entertaining Christmas Comedy Interlude with a stack of seasonal 7″s which included the second record club appearance for Frank Sidebottom (I think a tradition may have been started now), and I brought along some of my Christmas vinyl, playing Jimmy Smith and The Staple Singers.

The music played on the night spanned many styles and eras, from the present day all the way back to 1958, and the contrast between the two main albums couldn’t have been greater. Both received a round of applause when they finished.

There’s been some great feedback on Twitter too:

“Enjoyed Glossop Record Club tonight, great to make time to listen to something you’ve never heard before. Warm welcome from regulars too.”

“That was another fun night.”

“Had a great time. Will be back again for sure.”

“Good night at Glossop Record Club tonight. 2 albums I would never have listened to in full. Enjoyed both! Great interlude also!”

“Great night see you next month.”

A very big thank you also for all the food donations for Glossopdale Food Bank. You’re a very generous bunch.

The next Glossop Record Club session is BOWIE ON VINYL, Thursday 9th January 2014. Details coming soon.

Happy Christmas!

  1. Sounds like a good night; two and a half years later and our Vinyl Night at The Sun Inn, Pickering is going from strength to strength. If you’re ever ’round these parts, please feel free to bring a few bits of black (other colours are available) plastic with you.

    • Thanks John, it was a good night. Liking the look of The Sun Inn in general, looks like a great place. Thanks for the pointer. And I shall be sure to bring a few records with me should I ever find myself in that neck of the woods. We’ll be making use of a Dansette RG31 for the Singles Night in a couple of months.
